HUNT OR BE HUNTED: A Guide on how to Fashionably Survive Horror Nights

DSCF1841

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from last year’s Horror Nights at Universal Studios Orlando, it’s wearing your comfiest outfit to this mad event. Because just like one of its attractions from the popular TV series The Walking Dead, it’s either you hunt or be hunted! But then again, comfy clothes don’t necessarily mean one should look like someone who woke up on the wrong side of the bed in a wife-beater, right? So here is my simple guide on how to FASHIONABLY survive Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) and/or if there was a real zombie invasion!;)

1.) SHOES. For the love of all that is living, do not wear heels in any form for those dead walkers will get to you faster than you can say Zombie! Flat shoes is the way to go and this part is just as tricky for not everything flat is comfortable. Believe me, I made that mistake last year when I wore ballet flats only to discover blisters forming like the Caribbean on my feet! My suggestion? Trainers or chucks. This night entails a lot of walking and running so think as if you’re joining a marathon and of course, choose a pretty pair.:)

2.) CLOTHES. Unless you are brave enough not to run away from all the dark elements inside HHN, I do not recommend wearing a dress to this event. All for the very simple reason of not risking exposure of your undergarments when push comes to shove. I made sure I have an outfit that I can wear from day to night, DUSK TIL DAWN (another one of Universal’s scary attractions), warm and cold.

3.) BAG. Last year I brought my Louis tote to HHN and boy was it hard! I had to constantly readjust the straps and my shoulders felt like they were falling off. A sling bag is my go-to carrier this year and I suggest one made of light materials and with good carrying capacity for the lines are miles long and you need all your energy essentials (water, food) during the wait.

4.) ACCESSORIES. Wear less of them as possible and I don’t think I need to to say why.;) the only few pieces I had on was my dog tag ID (complete with blood type and religion–yes I came prepared haha) and my watch.

5.) SMILE. Silly isn’t it? But I found out that this is the best weapon to ward off those pesky park zombies and purgers (from the PURGE) as it makes them believe you are not afraid and therefore, they are better off scaring the more unsuspecting guests. Sometimes your smile breaks and they can start smelling your fear, but don’t worry, HHN is never complete without you (I really meant myself) being chased around the garbage bin by a bored zombie. Just remember, smile and walk away…works 80% of the time. Definitely the best accessory.;)

THE SIMPLE LIFE

Something about the air surrounding my hometown that makes one do the same things over and over again. Take sleeping and eating for example–such a deadly combo that I have easily mastered growing up in a small town and unsurprisingly still able to do like second nature during my short vacation in Ormoc City. That was why it came as a surprise that I, along with my entire human brood of eaters and sleepers, was able to drag myself out of bed (and the dining table) and drive the bumpy roads, with equally shady people living alongside it, to this mountaintop where Lake Danao nestles in. Yes, it’s a lake on top of a mountain, how cool can it get?

I say cool enough to hold a picnic aboard a floating cottage! And on this bright windy day, I chose to wear a pair of high waist shorts, a thin white tank and made a swanky windbreaker out of this floral cover-up because trust me, if the wind blows cold up on those mountains, it ain’t gonna be fun.;)

Face devoid of make up sans the bright lipstick, I took pleasure in just being around nature and family.

I wonder if this lake is as deep as they say it is? If that’s the case, I’m glad I used this lux sling bag by Tod’s (that I happily borrowed from my sister) to keep my valuables because with my questionable buoyancy, there is no telling how I’d ever retrieve my stuff if they fall in the water.LoL

It was my last day in the Philippines and after battling 2 typhoons and a weird case of jetlag on the side, I realized that I have not taken pictures (as I mentally planned) where taking pictures were due. So 2 hours before I was to board the first of my 4 flights back to the land of milk and honey, I gathered all my strength and donned one of the many outfits that I packed (and have not worn, hence the overweight bags) to my island paradise–a funky midi skirt in blush over a form-fitting bodysuit that was as dainty as it was flattering…and this after I have stuffed my face with rice and all things Filipino (spell animal grease) for the last 2 weeks!

The pictures were taken at one of Cebu City’s hot spots, the Movenpick Hotel, that houses the famous Ibiza Beach Club where people can dine, drink and just chill on top of a cliff overlooking the pristine waters. Nothing like the fresh ocean breeze to set the backdrop of what could be the most exciting wind-blown skirt shot of my blog to date!:)

Doesn’t seem like I’m about to board a 21-hour flight now, does it? It’s what the island life does to you.
